Website/IT System Development Manager

Career and Background

Watanabe was born in Tokyo, but raised in Ibaraki Prefecture. From early childhood, she was regularly exposed to nature thanks to her father, a microbiology researcher. For as long as she can recall, her parents had a computer at home for her father's work. Thanks to this, she became passionate about playing games and creating illustrations. After studying abroad in high school, she enrolled in the Faculty of International Liberal Arts at Dokkyo University. Alongside her classes at university, she studied a wide range of fields related to digital language in a programming circle (ICPC). At ICPC, she proposed a test design for an application called “My Space” in a system development competition at Yahoo headquarters. Users can earn login bonuses by visiting specific spots, and use the points to purchase interior decorations and accessories in the virtual space, literally decorating their own “My Space”. The application was praised by Yahoo for improving the user's health by actually moving offline, and for taking advantage of the digital gaming aspect of the application. She learned the programming language Javascript in just 3 months and created a search engine for corporate clients. Currently, she is responsible for the international technical development of J Leopard, and is very committed to the organization.

Interest and Hobby

My Work Ethic and Early Life

Do you have any favorite sayings or a particular attitude toward your work?

The world has a history of learning from the past, and the human race has evolved by reflecting on that history. This is also true in the digital world. Programming is a world where we challenge new limits based on algorithms and programs derived by our predecessors. When I am focusing on developing something new, I look back at other companies' services and programs I have developed in the past. Then, by integrating new ideas with the products, I propose and build my own unique system. This process is not limited to the digital world. We believe that analyzing and digitally transcribing the analog world in which we and others have lived in the past will lead to the development of innovative technologies. We will continue to develop systems that contribute to companies by understanding both the past and the present, digital and analog.

What kind of environment did you grow up in during your childhood and youth?

Many members of my family work in the technical and medical field. My father is a microbiologist/insect researcher, my mother's side of the family work in pharmacy, and my brother is a programmer. From an early age, he was a Boy Scout and learned the importance of cooperation and group work through canoeing, camping, fire building, and crafting - all in nature!

My Business Skills and Experience

Our clients have shown strong interest and appreciation for the following skills. Please note that, due to the nature of our B2B operations, we do not disclose client names or certain specific achievements in order to protect their brands.

International website development

I have been developing multilingual websites for Japanese companies who work in international markets. I specialize in creating content that maximizes the appeal of Made in Japan while emphasizing UI and design that are easy for overseas customers to use. I also contribute to the uptick of inquiries via our website and increased visibility of our websites by using my SEO know-how to climb the ranks of Google and Yahoo search engines.

Integration System Development

I design and develop business integration systems that enable horizontal management of customer information, product inventory information, and other relevant information together on a single platform. I have developed original systems by customizing existing structures or by creating them from scratch according to the issues and requirements of each company. I strive to create systems that are easy to operate and manage, and that are easily understood within the company.

Business App Development

I develop my own original applications for companies to support and improve their business efficiency. For example, in the case of a B2B manufacturing company, I proposed the development of a product sample application with CMS functionality that can be used offline. For a B2C tourism company, I have also developed an online simulation application for tourist attractions that utilizes AR technology.

My Contributions and Projects

After graduating from university, Kana worked for an advertising agency in Tokyo, where she worked as a web assistant in the SEO department. She became familiar with - and was very impressed by - cutting-edge SEO strategies. At the same time, she was in charge of optimizing code and building programs in Wordpress, as well as business integration applications. During this time, she deepened her knowledge of the coding languages PHP and Javascript. Upon leaving, she joined Made in Japan Products B2B as a founding member. She has now built our own B2B inquiry system and receives 10-12 inquiries per month from all over the world without relying on digital advertising.

Having received high praise for her system development achievements, Kana co-founded the overseas expansion support business J Leopard. As the Website and System Development Manager, she has been involved in the development of many websites and systems for her own company and for companies in both Japan and abroad. She regularly undertakes system development projects and other related projects with a market value of between 3-10 million yen. As of now, she contributes to many industries and types of businesses in Japan, including manufacturing, wholesale and retail, IT and telecommunications, food and catering, and more!

Background and Personal History

Childhood and Early Years

From a young age, she explored nature, both through her father's influence and her own participation in the Boy Scouts. One day, after making traditional crafts on a trip with her father, she developed an interest in making things from scratch. As a middle schooler, she played computer games, and when her father gave her a laptop computer at the age of nine, she became fully immersed in the world of the internet. During her junior high school years, she began to develop an interest in digital creative activities following exposure to illustration and game production (Wolf RPG Editor). She also developed an interest in traditional Japanese culture due to the influence of her mother, who was fond of flower arrangement, tea ceremony and kimono dressing.

University Years

In college, Kana bought a single introductory Javascript book at a local second-hand bookshop to start programming - something she had always been interested in. On holidays, she found herself working on it for seven hours straight, learning the basics in just three months. After that, she noticed self-study was limiting her and joined the university's programming circle (ICPC). Three months later, she designed and proposed ‘My Space’, a login bonus application for company employees and students. The idea blended healthcare with gameplay and was entered into a competition organised by Yahoo with her circle members.

First Career

After graduating from university, Ms. Watanabe worked as a web assistant in a digital advertising agency. She started her career in the SEO department, where she began to learn about the newest trends in SEO and rediscover the extent of the Google search algorithm. She also worked on building and optimising programmes for small and medium-sized companies to improve their operational efficiency.

Present

After leaving her role at Starcraft, she reunited with Nadir, who was a fellow Dokkyo graduate . She was also deeply interested in the philosophy of connecting foreign countries with traditional Japanese culture and business. Wanting to contribute with her specialised field of technology, she ran for co-founding member of Made in Japan Products B2B, which exports traditional Japanese crafts overseas. Today, through the development of its own website (using a unique B2B enquiry system), the company receives enquiries from a variety of countries - from India, to South-East Asia to the West. She later became responsible for website and system/application development for both domestic and international companies in the newly established company J Leopard.

Kenji Watanabe

The Most Important Person

Kana’s father has been a researcher for many years, exploring the world of microorganisms and insects. He grew up in Fukushima Prefecture, which is rich in nature, and now loves mountaineering. He wants his young Watanabe to feel “at one” with nature, and has given her many nature experiences. When she was 17, her mother sadly passed away due to illness. As a single parent, he continued to work while raising their children. His support and hard work will never be forgotten. Kana hopes to one day become someone as reliable and supportive as her father.

Kenji Watanabe

My aim with
J Leopard

"We want to eliminate the barriers between systems and the real world. We want to create spaces online that are akin to those in real life. And of course, we want to continue creating top-class B2B tools."
